5. HE WAS BORN AND RAISED IN KENYA
Manu Chandaria’s father was a merchant from Gujarat, India. He moved to Kenya in 1915 and first settled in Ngara, Nairobi. Their home was also a home to three other families. Manu also helped in the family business. Chandaria was not born with a silver spoon, however his father wanted to give him the best possible education.
He attended many schools in Nairobi and Mombasa and later pursued his undergrad in India. After acquisition of his Science Degree he proceeded to the US to acquire his engineering degree and eventually masters.
4. GOT MARRIED TO HIS WIFE AT 26
Manu chandaria married his wife Aruna at the tender age of 26. They then got 2 children, Priti and Neal. Priti and Neal work in the family business. Manu settled in the Muthaiga surbubs. In an interview he said that he never looked back after marrying Aruna. The two have been together for nearly 65 years.
3. HE IS THE GRAND UNCLE TO DARSHAN CHANDARIA
KCB lion Den investor, Darshan is Manu’s grand nephew. He is also the CEO of Chandaria industries. Moreover he has been a crucial member of transforming the family business to an international conglomerate. He is also the winner of the young business leader award.
2. HE IS A PHILANTHROPIST
In addition of being a leading business man, Manu Chandaria is also a well known philanthropist. His company has set up trusts in which are linked to various charities. He is therefore at the forefront of the family’s charity works.
1. HE HAS A COLLECTION OF AWARDS
In 2003, Chandaria was awarded the Order of the British Empire award by Queen Elizabeth. In December the same year, he was awarded Elder of the Burning Spear by President Mwai Kibaki. This was also when he was hailed as Kenya’s top industrialist.
