Top Shows You Didn’t Know Were Shot in Africa

We all love a good TV show. It keeps us glued to the screens hoping that our favorite character won?t die. Side note, why do the writers always kill off the popular characters?

What if I told you that some of your favorite TV shows were filmed in Africa? I kid you not. Some have been filmed full time in the continent while others only filmed some scenes. Can I just say I?m jealous of the people who got the chance to meet the cast?

Troy: Fall of a City

Set in the 13th Century BC, the story is told from Helen of Troy?s royal family, in a tale of mortals, war and gods. The entire series was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. Despite the series gaining positive feedback from critics, the show was a ratings disaster as it was expected to have high viewership. Don?t let it discourage you from watching it; the story is good.

The Widow

This show which is currently airing on Amazon Video tells the story of Georgia who must face the truth of what happened to her estranged husband who worked in the DRC. It has been reported that the show was shot in South Africa (despite being set in the DRC).

Reception of the show has been fairly positive and there might be prospects for a new season.

Based on tales of Norsemen of early medievak Scandinavia, the show has been running for five years. It is worth mentioning some of the scenes in the fifth season were filmed in Morocco because of the Sahara Desert. The producers weren?t able to recreate the desert in their studios so they had to use real environments. Talk about getting your environments right. ?

Mainly set in New York, the crime drama series surrounds a mysterious tattooed woman who is found naked inside a travel bag in Time Square by the FBI, with no recollection of her own past or identity.

The finale of the third season was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. I particularly like how they were able to capture the beautiful sights and sounds of the city. You would almost think that they were promoting tourism on behalf of the country.

I love this show. It?s unfortunate the show ended abruptly (Thanks a lot Netflix). Why do I love this show? It was filmed in my hometown Nairobi. My friend got the chance to interact with some of the cast members.

Sense8 portrays portraying eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly become sensates, human beings who are mentally and emotionally linked. One of the sensates was from Kibra Constituency, Nairobi Kenya. The show accurately portrayed life in the country, especially with the nature of politics in the country. ?

This critically acclaimed spy thriller show has had some shots in Cape Town, South Africa. The city was transformed into the three capital cities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US through setting the backdrop in the environs. This shows how great their producers are by making the scenes believable.

Game of Thrones

Set to air its final season in April, the popular show has been filmed in two locations in Morocco. The locations are Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Essaouira. When you google the locations, you?ll realize which scenes the locations were used as the backdrops.

This will definitely make some people happy who live, breathe and die Game of Thrones. I bet people will lose their minds when the first episode airs.
